Taxman gets in on the old skool revival, dropping a smashing amen-led number that LTJ Bukem in his heyday would have been proud of.
Ever since someone first sneakily recorded a clip of DJ Hype playing ‘Dreamland’ on his Kiss FM show, the internet has been ablaze with talk about this immense tune. Anticipation has been building and building and with the drum & bass public about to burst, it’s finally available to buy on 12′ vinyl wax.
2009 was a big year for Sigma, and 2010 has kicked off looking like there’s no signs of stopping. Their remix of the Adam F & Redman track out has just been released on Breakbeat Kaos. and has been sitting at number 1 in most charts for the past month or so.
Over on their Life imprint Original Sin has remixed the second release “Front To Back”, and it’s currently getting road tested (and has been murdering the floor!). “Writing ‘A Wandering Journal’ has been liberating beyond expression. It’s a project I’ve had developed and hibernating for so long that looking back, I know that if it’d been left any longer it wouldn’t have been realised to its true potential. All the unwritten details of the concept and the loose narrative would have faded in my mind. Creating it when I did, whilst the concept was still strong in my mind, and my musical output was amongst the most free-spirited of my career was perfect timing.
And it’s spurned me on to be even more ambitious with what I create in the future. I have to approach a new frontier now that this album is complete, and the current multimedia landscape is the perfect playground in which to elaborate on what I stand for creatively.” (more…)

Cyntax Error Records have kept the Reaperz behind a locked studio door for some time now, plans to unveil them earlier were delayed by the mortal enemy of all producers “THE PHANTOM HARD DRIVE CRASH”, this meant that Cyntax Error CEO’s Rekless & Dazzler had to barricade the Reaperz in the studio only cracking open the door to throw them a new hard drive then quickly shutting it. Faced with dehydration, starvation and sensory deprivation the reaperz (Dj Taz, Ricachet & N20) set to work on an escape plan “there’s only one way out of here” they thought …..”we gotta make some kinda sick bass driven music so Rekless & Dazzler will let us out”. Crystal Clear has been smashing up dancefloors for some time now, and here his debut EP for Frontline is no exception to that rule. The ‘Strength In Numbers’ EP comprises four tracks each with the power to stop an elephant in its tracks.
First up is the awesome vocal-led ‘Itzalot’. Featuring Cabbie on the production and Stapleton on the vocals, it’s a quirky stab at fun filled D&B but with a serious bass-fuelled edge. No wonder Mistajam made it his ‘Jam Hot’ record of the week!
2009 has been a busy year for Zen, having Dj’ed across the globe from Russia to L.a, to appearing on Hype’s Kiss show, and Grooverider’s Radio one show earlier this year as well as a D&B TV set with Harry Shotta. J Majik is a true soldier of the drum and bass scene, with a discography dating back to 1992. His debut Metalheadz release came in 1994 and he hasn’t looked back since. One of the few artists out there who can constantly reinvent his sound, over the year’s he’s been responsible for countless anthems including Spaced Invader, Metrosound (with Adam F) Love is Not a Game and most recently Crazy World with production partner Wickaman.

Dom & Roland has been at the forefront of the Drum and Bass electronic music scene for over 15 years. Originally signed to No-U-Turn he moved to the scene leader Moving Shadow in 1995, he has released four critically acclaimed albums to date, over 100 singles, high profile electronic remixes as well as many collaborations with some of the scene’s most talented artists.
As one of the pioneers of the tech-step genre he is well known for his cinematic otherworldly soundscapes, It has often been suggested that he move into doing film soundtracks as his sound often conveys a strong visual element. Teamed with his sought after talent for producing dancefloor pounding rhythms, he has managed to stay at the pinnacle of the scene to this day. (more…)

The album has been talked about at length, with fans catching sneak peaks of the incredible dancefloor killers ‘Therapy’, ‘Without You’ and ‘Pimp Don’t Limp’ on Youtube. If you’re The Upbeats, you never know when inspiration is going to hit, or leave you curled up on the floor with laughter-induced abdominal muscles pains. In this particular scenario, their inspiration was a whispered Brazilian ghetto story related to them by a friend. The story of the Caveraos (English translation: Big Skeleton), a super-tank full of Navy Seal trained Brazilian gang members known to terrorise the favelas of Rio De Janeiro, or on good days, distribute Nike sneakers and free cable. Sounds fucked up right?
Anyway, as you’ve probably gathered by now, The Upbeats were suitable taken with this story, and having already floated the idea of a haunted-house album, decided to title their third album Big Skeleton, out of homage to the Caveraos; and horror in general. (more…)
