John B’s brand new album ‘Light Speed’ released February 2012

Over the course of the past 15 years John B has become one of the most eclectic, unique and respected artists in electronic music. His ability to stretch the elastic of drum & bass over the past decade has brought him together with an array of figureheads from all corners of the scene from Metalheadz boss Goldie, to legendary global DJ Paul Oakenfold. Defying categorisation, John’s catalogue straddles electro, punk rock, trance, latin and drum & bass. Now as we enter 2012 he’s ready to drop his brand new album ‘Light Speed’, a full-force electro/trance D&B hybrid of truly epic proportions. Featuring collaborations with an array of superb vocalists ‘Light Speed’ is a prime example of an artist not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and follow his musical ideals, and with one of the busiest DJ schedules in the business it seems the rest of the world would agree. Long live the John B, original to the end! (more…)

ORIGINAL SIN & FRIENDS PART 2 EP – Image Recordings

With the recent success of his ‘Move EP’, many people will know Original Sin for his outings on Playaz and their associated labels as he has been consistently rolling out tunes that smash and mash dancefloors around the world with their intense basslines and frentic energy.

Those who have been following the upward trajectory of Original Sin’s career thus far will know that Image Recordings is his own imprint in which he tends to enlist a selection of other producers from the Playaz crew to aid him in his quest to produce yet another selection of nuclear beats. SERUM & NORTHERN LIGHTS/FOREIGN CONCEPT

Just in time for Christmas, the Shogun mob bring back the ever-reliable SGN:LTD series for one last dance of 2011. A double A-side from a trio of producers who are taking no prisoners whatsoever here…and let’s face it if you got the call from Shogun nor would you. So set the levels at full tilt and hold tight, we’re goin’ in!

Old-school rules as ‘Watch Out’ kicks off with some strictly ’90′s breaks and then a smileinducing mentazm stab that cements the nostalgia to full effect. Raving crew get ready as the drop thunders in with boom bass underpinning it all while we’re carried away by the evil transparency of the looming hook. Serum & Northern Lights showing a trip down memory lane often turns up some of the best beats. Awesome! (more…)

BLOKHE4D & GRIDLOK – BAD KAT/MARTYR – Bad Taste

After their huge hit Blok-O-Theque earlier this year, Blokhe4d are ready to give us yet another massive release – this time moving into new territory as they unleash the first of many forthcoming excursions into different styles and tempos.

In collaboration with the mighty Gridlok, ‘Bad Kat’ is a powerhouse of a D&B track featuring rolling drums, huge bass and massive attention to detail.
Martyr switches things up even more. Coming in at 140bpm, Martyr lurches forward, with cinematic synths leaving the track shrouded in mystery and suspense. (more…)

Crystal Clear & Zen ‘Heavy (VIP)’ & ‘Bullet’

After the monumental success of Heavy which saw ravers across the globe throwing some serious shapes, Crystal Clear and Zen are back with the much filthier remix. Enticing the listener with the ominous echoing of vocals and slow paced introduction, Heavy VIP takes virtually no time at all to break out into dance floor destruction. Mercilessly brutal percussion is teamed up with a powerful bass line in delightfully disgusting composition. If you thought Heavy was rude, just brace yourself for Heavy VIP. (more…)

Future Shock (Jubei Rmx)/Turn The Page (Need For Mirrors Rmx)

Having jumped back in the D&B saddle towards the end of last year with their stunning album ‘Turn The Page’ there’s been no turning back for Craggz & Parallel who’ve immersed themselves back in the depths the studio that they share with D Bridge and Kasra. With an array of beats lined up and ready to go C&P decided to let a couple of friends loose on two killer jams from said album; Need For Mirrors and Jubei, please stand up!

Jubei jumps up to add his take on ‘Future Shock’…and what a job he does. The intro is sick, the drop is sick and the tough drums are just….sick! Bass stabs and surges into the mix like a precision swordsman as the track gets to work demolishing those who bare witness. An awesome dropout ensues and we’re back into it right up to the end. Big bad and very, very heavy. (more…)

CALIBRE – Piano Bizness/Smooth Baby

With our Indian summer holding strong it seems to have spread into camp Critical too as the label that’s delivered the finest grade D&B since 2002 drops another sumptuous release from the man with the Midas touch, Calibre. Showing off his more experimental self is a release that sits perfect on the Critical mantle, sit back and enjoy.

‘Piano Bizness’ is exactly that. A simple stepping break underpins the warm piano moves and seemingly delicate bassline with subtle vocal drops that make for a beautifully mesmerizing slice of Calibre magic. Deepness for a 4am floor or those late night smoking sessions. (more…)

Blu Mar Ten – Love Is The Devil – Blu Mar Ten

Love is the Devil is Blu Mar Ten’s follow-up to the runaway success of previous album, Natural History and showcases another development in the trio’s consistent work at the cutting edge of Drum & Bass, musically, conceptually and technically.

From the epic vistas of Into the Light, the intricate musicality of All Thoughts Are Prayers, the brooding darkness of Hollow Men, the sweetness of High Hopes, the shockingly technical Blue Skies and the ethereal Sweet Little Supernova, the album represents two years of solid work and delivers 18 tracks of pure quality from every known corner of the genre and some that have yet to be invented. Hailing from Miami, Porphyro is the third artist to release on Florida’s burgeoning future-electronica label Dubporn Records and the labels first truly international artist to grace its stage. FOREIGN CONCEPT / FOREIGN CONCEPT & KASRA – Mob Justice/Show You

Moving towards the end of the year and it’s time for a temperature change as Critical gets ice cold with the talents of D&B scene newcomer, Foreign Concept. Although a relatively fresh face Foreign Concept has already made quite a name for himself have signed tunes to the likes of Samurai, Ingredients, Shogun and Commercial Suicide. Here Kasra picks possibly the cream of the crop with a release that has been hitting clubs hard all over for the past few months. Sometimes the only answer is ‘Mob Justice’. (more…)

Ink & Loxy Present: “Horsementality” – Renegade Hardware

The original Horsemen concept was initially conceived by 4 minds coming together through one unifying vision. Those minds were of: Ink, Loxy, Keaton and Dylan. Carving out their own unique take on drum & bass. Fusing together specific elements that would form the fundamental cornerstones of the Horsemen sound: raw original sampled breaks, heavy sub bass and dub elements.
This style and concept has since seeped into the consciousness of a new wave of producers across the globe and has influenced and evolved into the sonics presented here on this album. Ink and Loxy in conjunction with Renegade Hardware are proud to present: Horsementality.. (more…)
