Bad Taste Volume 4 hits on March 28th

As 2011 throws open its doors it’s time once again for Blokhe4d’s Bad Taste Recordings camp to step forth with the next installment of the all-conquering, earth-shattering Bad Taste compilation series. It’s been a busy last year for the guys at the Bad Taste Motel; alongside making huge waves with their Blokhe4d project and touring the world, Vegas and Uman have compiled what is one of, if not the hottest compilation album of the year in D&B! The Bad Taste series has always been at the forefront of drum and bass, being one of the first labels to release tunes from the likes of Chase and Status and Noisia. Bad Taste Vol. 4 is no different, leading you through lush melancholic arrangements, to feral basses all the way to wide open heroic soundscapes that will make you drop your jaw and raise your arms to the sky. With all its imperfections and mood-swings BTV4 has serious sound system implications all over it ready to blow away those winter blues! “We never said to ourselves lets do another Bad Taste album exactly, the tracks just fell into place and when we took a good look at what we were being sent there was no other choice but to compile these great tunes and get them out to the public.” Blokhe4d (more…)

SPECTRASOUL – Lost Disciple/Reminiscence – Shogun Audio

Shogun Audio serves up some more sensory sensation with Spectrasoul’s stunning new release ‘Lost Disciple’ b/w ‘Reminiscence.’ Distinguished as always, Shogun sets standards and this gem certainly doesn’t disappoint, well and truly raising the bar to dizzy new heights.

‘Lost Disciple’ is a euphoric masterpiece of sweeping chords and atmospheric beauty, characteristic of the thoughtful works behind the Brighton-based production duo. Layered vocals envelope powerful drum patterns, while the epic, deep bassline give it enough bottomend to hurt any floor as the twinkling pads interlace throughout cementing this track as a genuinely beautiful work of art. ENEI, EASTCOLORS, NOEL – Cracker/Danger Dance – CRITICAL

Critical Music marches forward, tapping into yet more new talent for 2011 resulting in an absolutely filthy D&B excursion that has had the likes of Andy C going ballistic for it. Beautiful ft. Robert Owens/Souvenir

Since they first burst onto the scene with their own unique brand of highly charged, uplifting dance floor drum & bass there are few who can deny the impact the Brookes Brothers have had in creating the current wave of feelgood music that perpetuates throughout the D&B movement. As we get set for their incredible debut self-titled album the BBK clan unleash one final single taken from it, and what a release to set us up for possibly the biggest drum & bass album of its kind this year! Breathing Again ft. Proxima/Redenmption ft. Robert Owens

As we get ready for one of the most accomplished electronic debut albums to drop this year, Shogun Audio ready us with this strictly limited edition 10” dubstep release taken from Icicle’s imminent long player, ‘Under The Ice’.

‘Breathing Again’ is Icicle’s own refreshing take on the dubstep movement and as always with an Icey production it oozes class. Featuring fellow producer Proxima the emotions run high and build throughout with haunting female vocals and creeping fx that hide something far more sinister and in the producer’s own words “are just a disguise for nothing more than fat, nasty, filthy 140 bpm bass pressure!” (more…)

Dizplay – Shift Happens (Basswerk Recordings)

Germany’s longest running drum & bass label Basswerk continues from where it’s sublime Christmas compilation left off with an album in two parts from Cologne’s ‘Trentemoller of drum & bass’, Dizplay. Whilst disc one sees the focus largely on the dance floor, skipping from raw and brooding D&B through to the more liquid, ethereal vibe it’s on disc two that the shift really happens. Demonstrating a much more mature sound to his debut album ‘Beautiful Bytes’ from 2006, CD2 sees Dizplay downing the BPM’s and showing off his ability to produce stunningly beautiful downbeat electronica with inklings of future garage and dusbtep along the way. A fantastic club & clouch album from Basswerk who continue to push the boundaries of traditional D&B labels, always remaining true to their original ethos. (more…)
