DJ GIZELLE
"My first time going to acid house parties in 1988 will always
stay with me and I was stone cold sober at the time! The music, the
sounds, the beats, the lights, the lasers, the smoke, the gathering of
people from all walks of life and the atmosphere – it was electric – and
I never looked back from this profound experience.
At the time, I was already dj-ing in a pub in Deptford playing rare
groove, but within a few weeks I was playing a whole new sound – Acid
House & Balearic – and soon found myself playing for the ‘Asylum’
acid house raves in south London and 'Cooz' club nights in north London.
I have never lost my passion for that old skool feel on the dance floor
and the frequency of the Roland TB-303’s sound, which still gets me
every time I hear it.
The sound of the ‘303’ is great driven on the backbone of techno and
electronica, which is the route I followed in the 90s. In the late 90s I
spent most weekends playing on the Immersion Sound System, which was
the best underground techno sound system of its time on the free party
scene in London. The force and quality of its sound was really exciting.
We played techno together nearly every weekend for a few years and
through this experience, a new London style of acid techno with a punk
attitude evolved from a talented pool of musicians, engineers and dj’s.
It was so much fun and I have a lot to thank for from those days -
thanks to Lawrie Immersion, the Stay Up Forever family and the circus of
squat party people.
From those days I have remained part of the Stay Up Forever Collective
family, but have worked hard at being true to myself by developing my
own take on the acid and techno sounds as a dj artist. As well as
playing techno I do enjoy straying into the realms of wonky breaks &
beats and old skool sounds, and spinning acid house which I love. I'm
passionate about the underground music scene in the UK – whether it's
electronic or live music – and for me playing records in the moment,
sharing the music, hearing it loud, and seeing people dance and having a
good time, gives me a buzz. J"

For me was a Spiral Tribe squat party Carnegie Library Deptford that I
walked into stone cold sober in early 90's – I saw the light… modern
dance music scene Ive loved the evolution of it and as it evolves still,
Grime is my all time favorite music but I love all music with passion
and feeling and origionality and I love acid, so it is a pleasure and a
privilege to have Gizelle to come play on the show. K
