1UP consists of two 20 year old Drum & Bass/House artists and computer wizz kids (Kirt Rainford and Andy Edwards). The duo’s upbringing was atypical in the sense that from the early age of 12 they spent less time in school and more time developing computer websites. Over the last few years they have further developed their creative side in music programming, sampling and playing, to come up with an intense dnb/house/liquid dnb second release. All this from their studio on a field in a port-a-cabin.
Kirt and Andy met by chance at a party that Andy was DJing and they hit it off immediately. They both realised that their musical tastes were almost parallel, their main influences being House music and Drum & Bass. This formed the friendship that got them into Kirt’s studio where they have been creating their own brand of DnB and House tunes ever since.
EP “Bloody Nonsense”:
Bloody Nonsense was inspired by a combination of jam sessions with other producers and their large collection of underground old school drum and bass vinyl records. Other influences include Camo & Krooked, DJ Marky & Bungle, Boyz Noize and the Chemical Brothers. Kirt’s vocals play a part in three of the tracks and vocal samples come from a producer friend and a very angry phone call from the 1UP manager’s next door neighbour one weekday night after the boys leaving his house at 2.30am after fixing a turntable.
The first release, Stay Hungry Stay Foolish, was played by BBC Introducing radio Shropshire for a number of weeks and voted as Uploader pick of the week on BBC introducing radio Stoke with DJ’s on the show saying “We would not be surprised to hear this track on BBC radio1 extra”. The boys are now working on a live performance ready for early 2013 and have the next project already under way and with guest vocals this time coming from someone with serious calibre.
