The combined forces of Callide and Intraspekt continue their assault on the world’s eardrums with their new Synthetic Future EP, on CrissyCriss’ own The Zoooo Records. The duo have been in a rich vein of form lately, with a rush of releases on a number of labels, including Crissy’s d&b, dubstep and multigenre imprint.
Callide is an industry veteran, with a history of huge releases on Ram, 36 Hertz and others, and Intraspekt has a reputation as a producer of talent and technical excellence. They team up to deliver their own blend of dancefloor-driven drum & bass, which evokes the early 2000s sound of epic intros, reeces and 808s, and good time music which is delivered without boundaries.
The EP kicks off with the statement of intent which is Axis. Instantly recognisable, the sliding breaks which underpin the intro will leave you in no doubt that you are on to something special. Take a trip into space with Callide and Intraspekt as your guides, as booming bass and sparkling electronics light your way. The beats kick, and the low frequencies rumble, as you take off and glide into the first part of the journey.
Second track Uninvited sounds like a group of starship troopers fighting their way out of an enemy stockade. Rough, tough and tearing, the track builds with some frenetic drum work before the buzzing effects take over, seeming to hang in the air as the beats and the bass wage warfare underneath. Technically brilliant, this one never loses sight of its goals of shaking the system and moving the crowds.
Go further into The Future next, with a classic sounding military opening. This moves into some more modern territory, with an epic, blasting call to arms which is coupled with some of the most amazing drums you will hear this year. More intense reeces can be found lower down in the mix, and the whole package will have the DJs reaching for the rewind in no time. Powerful, forceful future music.
Rounding things off is the slowly building Synthetic, which takes you even deeper into the minds and imaginations of Callide and Intraspekt. Once the track does drop in, all hell breaks loose and you’ll quickly lose all sense of time. Reminiscent of Pendulum at their finest, all the elements of this one, and the entire EP, are on point throughout, leaving ravers wanting more.
Take a glimpse of the Synthetic Future with Callide and Intraspekt on The Zoooo Records on 14th October.
