The NFM discography reads like a ‘whos who’ of the cream of Drum & Bass, having released on pretty much every elite label you can think of – Headz, Playaz, Shogun, Digital Soundboy, V…the list goes on and on and on and on. They now touch down on Horizons with the ‘Rotor EP’ which is some of their best work to date.
Title track ‘Rotor’ kicks off proceedings with the classic NFM sound – clean, punchy 2-step drums and deep, twisting sub bass. Skittering hi-hats move in and out of the mix to make this one the very definition of a roller. ‘Pantheon’ is a more upbeat affair with some vibrant pads setting the atmosphere in the intro before it drops into a rich tapestry of supreme bass manipulation and sweet female vocal snippets.
‘Actress’ is where their old skool influences come to the fore with some organic breaks providing the skeleton for some classic Bristol style sounds to hang from. ‘Broadwalk’ rounds things off in fine style – A tense, nervous intro makes way for some bleak industrialist drones and tight stepping drum work reminiscent of some of the releases on their own Zoltar label.
